I am currently a college student interested in perusing either a journalism, or chemistry major. If the latter is taken I will continue my education to pharmaceutical school to earn a higher degree. As a student I am looking for a laptop that is convenient to carry from class to class and something that is durable. Moreover, I would like a computer that is capable of running several programs without difficulty (Google Chrome, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, iTunes, etc.)
I really like the look of Macbook Pros and find their touchpad extremely convenient. Therefore I am interested in either an Apple computer or a computer running Windows OS that is capable of having a more complicated touchpad.
I am pretty flexible on price, however I would not like to purchase something more than 00 (hence, no more expensive than the 13-in Macbook Pro). Recently I have been using Windows 7 on my PC and really enjoy this OS, perhaps even more than the Mac OS.
I would really appreciate a computer that is lightweight with a good battery life. Wireless internet is a must, of course. I couldn’t care less about screen size, the smaller the better. Hard drive, too, is not a big issue (150gb minimum, 2-4gb RAM).
What would you recommend if you were in my position?
Hope that wasn’t too long. Thanks for any help.
I think I’m going to get the ThinkPad SL510 Series. Lenovo seems really nice.
hi, im a college student and thinking about getting a new laptop, im looking at these two particularly, Macbook and Sony Vaio, not macbook air, since it doesnt have cd/dvd drive, but i would appreciate any other recommendations, i want something that is not that big, something that i can take around, and fast, but most importantly, reliable. I wont be playing video games or any big stuff, just basic stuff like e-mail, facebook, youtube, and of course homework, one thing that seems to me that is going to be a hassle for macbook though is that (well since i am goint to write a lot of papers this semester) i will be using Microsoft Word a lot, and Microsoft Powerpoint, and Microsoft Excel, so im probably have to spend another $$ on that to buy all those programs,( do they come seperately or together?) i think both are overpriced, but i really like how they look, what do you think? my price range is about 0-1,000, again im open to other considerations, thanks
if you can mention particular models, thatll be great too
For my college’s website, there is a course access site that opens up all the different classes which contains all their files that teachers post online like powerpoint presentations, word documents, etc…but when I try to access this portion of the website, it is EXTREMELY slow, it takes like five minutes to move from folder to folder, and it only is slow on my laptop, whereas on my home computer, it instantly moves from folder to folder…..i was told that my laptop was the issue. Any reason why it might be my laptop? how can i speed up the access to this site?
ok, so i have a netgear wnr2000 wireless-N router in my study at one end of the house and my bedroom is at the complete opposite end of the house. The router gives wireless connection throughout the whole house except for (of course) my bedroom. now i keep on having to bring my laptop out to the family room to do assignments and it is noisy so i want my laptop in my room where i can study quietly. Yes i do have an ethernet port but i use it for my ps3 and i only want wireless connection for my laptop so dont say use ethernet cable please.
The main part is that the router has six ports. 1 port is for the power. 1 port says INTERNET. and the other 4 ports say ETHERNET and each port is numbered 1-4.
Near my router, connected to the wall there are 4 ports which look like ethernet cable shaped ports, anyway 1 port has the fax phone connected to it (Not necessary). but the other three ports all have three ethernet cables connecting to the router. 2 of the chords go to the port section named ETHERNET and the other chord is connected to the single port named INTERNET. but the thing is, the cable going from the wall port to the INTERNET port on the router has a sticker saying ‘DATA’ above the connection port on the wall.
so, now i have told you all that i want to move the router to my sisters room which is close to the middle of the house. she has 1 single ethernet port in her room, and obviously a powerpoint to allow power to the router. im pretty sure you need more than 1 cable running to the router for either wireless or cabled connection to work. anyway, let me know if i do and tell me if i need to buy anything to make it work.
i want to keep the router in my sisters room. nowhere else. and i need to know EXACTLY where to put the cables and how many i need.
Thank you soo much for anyone who answers this.
I just got my new lap top yesterday. I’m using it for university, so I would like it to run as fast and smooth as possible. I found myself questioning the capabilities of USB drives on that matter. I’ve always used my 4 gig for storage of powerpoint presentations and whatnot, but I wondered if they could hold more. If I downloaded something on my desktop computer, and installed it with the destination of installation on my removable USB, and then connected my USB drive to my laptop, would it be capable of running those applications installed to me USB drive? I’m thinking of going as far as installing World of Warcraft on a USB drive and running it that way, so it doesn’t strain my laptop’s hard drive. With a more powerful USB drive of course
Thank you for your review, and answers are greaty appreciated!
