I have to make a powerpoint presentation by tommorow on my PC that has windows XP. But the computers at my school are macs. (but I do know that they have Windows Power Point on the mac) Will I be able to open it there?
You should be fine. If you have PowerPoint on both the PC and the Macs at school, there are only a couple of things that could be a problem (and it Microsoft PowerPoint, not Windows; Windows is the operating system for PCs made by Microsoft). One is if you are using Office 2007 on your PC and the Macs have Office 2004 for Mac. You will need to save your PowerPoint file to an earlier version to make sure it is readable.
The other problem can be fonts. If you choose any fancy or non-standard fonts from your PC, there’s a pretty good chance they won’t be on the Macs and will change and look ugly when you open your file on the Mac. Try to stick with things like Helvetica, Arial, Times, Times New Roman, but be aware that there is the possibility that the fonts could change.
Also make sure that if you’ve added any movies or sounds that you have those files with you, because sometimes they are linked, not embedded, and you can end up with them missing when you open the file on the Mac.
Videos are linked to PowerPoint presentation, when you send the PowerPoint presentation to other computer, the linked video will not be shown.
Solution:
1. Put the video files and the PowerPoint presentation in a same folder.
2. Reinsert the video file to the PowerPoint presentation.
3. Send the entire folder to MAC.
Considering the different operation system, it will be a good way to convert your PowerPoint presentation to Flash to embed the Video to your presentation.
Actually, you are using Macintosh PowerPoint on Windows. PowerPoint is a Macintosh application that was ported to Windows.
Most schools do have Microsoft PowerPoint (the Macintosh version, of course) on their Macs. Not all of them will have PowerPoint 2008 installed, however.
If you are using PowerPoint 2007 on your Windows PC, then use Save As and choose the file type for PowerPoint 97 through 2003. That way you’ll be sure your presentation will run regardless of which version the school has on the Macs.
Yes, there shouldn’t be any problem. I’ve done it plenty of times. At my college we have both windows and mac machines, and in some rooms you get mac and others you get pc. There has never been any issue for me concerning a powerpoint project. Everything works.
Most likely you school is well prepared, and that have software that will open PowerPoint files.
I say go ahead and make it. If doesn’t work at school, tell them it is not my fault this school has to be retarded and use Macs
